AXIS' Big Foils in 2025

AXIS' Big Foils in 2025

One of AXIS' biggest reasons for its success is Adrian and the teams abilities to predict the need for larger foils before anyone else, and then continue producing some of the best products in that category from then up until now. Surf foils and tiny high performance foils can come and go in popularity between brands, but the necessity to make some of the more difficult disciplines as easy as possible will always remain crucial to getting more people into our sports and growing as a whole.

Dockstarting and Downwinding has all been made massively easier globally by AXIS. The 1150 is still regarded as both one of the original and also best pump foils on the market, while the 1300PnG V1 was regarded as the easiest foil to learn to downwind on by a country mile. The V2 Pump n Glide Wings took 5 years for Adrian to eventually replace - as he simply couldn't design anything better in that time.

There have also been a good number of larger foils in different families of wings join the fold in the mean time and this can make things look a little difficult to decipher from the outside. Rest assured, there is a foil most suited for everyone, depending on what discipline of foiling the want to attack - and hopefully we can outline that here. Keep in mind, everything has its comprimises - so choose the wing which best suits your path.

Pump n Glide V2

The Daddy of them all. The Pump n Glide wings have been a staple in the AXIS range since the beginning. The absolute easiest to get on foil in the most marginal conditions, for the heavier riders (and perhaps with the least amount of skill!).

Think dock starting with the 1200 or learning to SUP foil with the 1300 or 1400. These V2's handle more speed than the V1's but still have much slower top speeds than the likes of the other big wings in the AXIS family.

Spitfire 1180

The Best turner of the bigger wings. Great for light wind winging and progressing onto after learning to SUP Foil on the PnGs. The Spitfire is a wave wing, designed for wing and surf foil - the glide isn't excellent, but their turning ability is far better than anything else.

Fireball's

Ultimate glide and range for those progressing fully in their downwind journeys. Extremely surprising low end ability for wings of roughly 13 Aspect Ratio, and a great top end. Designed for glide and speed - these wings pick up energy in the ocean the most efficiently and want to keep going constantly. They do need more power to get going than the PnG's and Spitfires, but once going they're far more glidey than those other two families. This is the Downwind specific wing. Wing'able if you like blasting around, but they won't turn like the Spitfires.

Going into the end of 2025 we see Adrian discussing two larger sizes of Fireballs we're yet to see - a 1500cm and 1750cm span. These are outrageously big foils, best suited towards intermediate/advanced dockstarting and long distances. AXIS rider Nicholas Iten recently used one of these foils to cover over 20km of pump foiling in 1 hour - averaging 20.13kph.
