Collection: Mountainboard Hubs, Tyres & Wheels
The wheel system is where mountainboard performance really lives. Swapping hubs or tyres is one of the most impactful upgrades you can make — and understanding what each part does helps you put together the right combination for how and where you ride.
A complete mountainboard wheel has three components: the hub (the rigid rim), the tyre (the rubber that mounts onto it), and an inner tube inside the tyre. Hubs and tyres are sold separately here, which lets you mix and match based on your riding style, terrain, and budget.
Hubs
The hub is the rigid wheel core that the tyre mounts onto. MBS make hubs in two materials — injection-moulded plastic and CNC-machined aluminium — and the choice between them is essentially a question of what you're willing to spend and how hard you ride.
The MBS FiveStar Hub (£13.00) is the entry-level option and the hub you'll find on many stock MBS boards. It's a plastic hub designed to accept both 8" and 9" tyres, which gives it more versatility than the older RockStar II design it's based on. Maximum recommended pressure is 50psi — fine for most general riding, trail use, and beginner freestyle.
The MBS RockStar II Hub (from £13.00) is a plastic hub with a notably high strength-to-weight ratio for its material. Unlike the FiveStar, it's designed for 8" tyres only, but it handles pressures up to 80psi — significantly more than the FiveStar — making it the better choice for riders who run hard tyres for speed or skatepark use. It's long been the most popular plastic hub in the MBS range. Available in black, white, blue, carbon, and camo.
The MBS RockStar Pro II Hub (£30.00) is where plastic gives way to aluminium. Precision CNC machined from 6061-T6 alloy, it's the choice for freestyle riders and racers who want maximum stiffness and durability at high tyre pressures. At this level you're not buying better grip or comfort — you're buying a hub that won't flex or fatigue over time under serious riding loads. Fits 8" tyres. Available in black, silver, and bronze.
The MBS RockStar Pro II XL Hub (£37.00) is the top of the range and the most capable hub MBS have ever built. Also machined from 6061-T6 aluminium, it adds a wider 60mm rim width — the widest MBS have made — which increases the tyre contact patch for better grip and stability on loose terrain. Critically, it's also the first aluminium MBS hub to accept both 8" and 9" tyres (and some 10"), making it the most versatile option in the aluminium range. It also supports MBS wheel balancing weights for smooth running at speed with larger, heavier tyres. Available in platinum, silver, bronze, and black.
Tyres
All four MBS tyres are available in this collection and are detailed separately in our Mountainboard Tyres section. In brief: T1 for speed and light weight, T3 for maximum grip in mixed terrain, T2 (9") for rough off-road use, and Roadie for asphalt and skateparks.
Complete Wheels
The MBS All Terrain Skateboard Wheels (£90.00 per set) are a complete assembled wheel — hub and tyre combined — sized for longboards and all-terrain skateboards rather than standard mountainboards. They come as a set of four and are the go-to option for converting a longboard or larger skateboard to off-road capable use, or for riders who want a simple, ready-to-go solution without building up separate hub and tyre combinations. Available in black, green, orange, blue, and red.
