Sooruz Guru Wind Wetsuit Review

Sooruz Guru Wind Wetsuit Review

The Guru Wind is a high performance wetsuit that has been optimised for wind sports like wingfoiling, kitesurfing and windsurfing. We are big fans of Sooruz wetsuits as they are one of the few wetsuit companies that pro actively supports multiple disciplines and not just surfing. The brands founders as serious windsurfers and their athlete team has plenty of top names in it like Tom Traversa and the Dunkerbecks.

I like to do a bit of everything from surfing to SUP surfing, kitesurfing and wing foiling. Versatility is key. I probably surf the least so spend more time out of the water than in it, which is what attracted me to the Guru Wind. The exact model tested is a 5/4 Front Zip.

From a Guru Pro you can immediately notice that the 5/4 instead of 5/4/3 is a bit tighter. Not quite as flexible. The Black Diamond texture on the outside probably also slightly reduces the flexibility. The suit did feel very warm though and not restrictive. If you are mostly a prone paddler, this is probably not the suit for you. Take a look at the Guru Pro. This extra warmth and protection from the wind is quite welcome though for wind sport athletes.

Another immediate difference is the ankle straps and the way the ankles are finished. These make a huge difference kitesurfing especially where spray from the board can enter the wetsuit round your ankles. I have had no issues with that here.

The suit also offers a specific cut along the forearms which is more generous. This is designed to reduce forearm fatigue which is most common in windsurfers. As I am not a windsurfer, I did not really notice this, but the cut is not really a downside for non windsurfers.

The inner Storm Dry lining is really nice. It feels warm and comfortable on the body and dries really quickly. This comes down to the thighs the same as the Guru Pro. If you want more of this, then the Guru+ is the warmest suit.

For UK conditions, this 5/4 Sooruz Guru Wind wetsuit offers plenty of warmth and could easily be used year round. Just add some accessories in the depth of winter like some boots, gloves, and a hood. It is probably a bit too warm for the core summer months however.  All in all this wetsuit is working out very well for us and the sports we are doing.
